Jaundice is a yellow tint to the skin or eyes, usually related to bilirubin. It can arise from problems before, in, or after the liver, and always needs medical evaluation — do not wait it out at home.
Blood tests often include liver enzymes (AST, ALT, ALP, GGT), bilirubin, and proteins. Patterns help specialists decide whether the issue is more hepatocellular (e.g. hepatitis, drugs, fatty liver) or cholestatic (e.g. bile duct blockage). Ultrasound or other imaging may be requested. At our liver clinic in Chandanagar, we interpret results in context and plan next steps.
Viral hepatitis, alcohol, medications, gallstones, and autoimmune conditions are among the many possible causes. ERCP or other procedures are only considered when clinically indicated.
